Mom Rants Against Gay Photographer

Once again, the ignorance astounds me. I sincerely hope that either or both of this woman’s children turn out to be gay.

People unfortunately go through a lot of mental gymnastics to justify beliefs they have that aren’t exactly sound.

Unfortunately, some people’s minds will never be changed on an issue, something that 21-year-old Alabama photographer, Faith Grace, discovered the hard way after a pregnant woman who was interested in getting some maternity photos taken messaged her.

At first, everything seemed cool, but after the mom started looking at Grace’s social media accounts, she noticed something that troubled her: the young photographer was rocking an LGBT pride flag in her posts.

Apparently, the mother couldn’t bear the thought of having her pictures taken by someone with a different sexual orientation than her, so not only did she decline to do business with Grace, she sent her a text message letting her know that she specifically didn’t hire the young woman because she’s gay.

Gay Waiter Fired After Customer Note

I think it’s bullshit to fire someone for posting a receipt’s note on Facebook, or anywhere else for that matter. It’s not like anyone’s personal information was shared. No name, no credit card information. I think hate should be called out, but corporations only look out for themselves. I mean most companies don’t want employees to defend the store or restaurant from theft, so it’s not surprising they’d not take up for someone like this guy.

A gay waiter was sacked from his restaurant job after a customer wrote a homophobic message about him on a receipt.

The restaurant, Hickory Tavern, confirmed that it had sacked the server after he posted a photograph of a receipt with the homophobic message.

Danica Roem: VA’s Newest State Lawmaker

Virginia needs to change its state motto to one of two new ideas:

  1. Go big or go home.
  2. Love is love is love (in the same vein as Virginia is for lovers)

They went and elected themselves a transgender woman to a position long held by a social conservative who proudly touted his role as Virginia’s “chief homophobe”. You done well Virginia and I hope Ms Roem does well by you.

Virginia’s most socially conservative state lawmaker was ousted from office Tuesday by Danica Roem, a Democrat who will be one of the nation’s first openly transgender elected officials and who embodies much of what Del. Robert G. Marshall fought against in Richmond.

The race focused on traffic and other local issues in suburban Prince William County but also exposed the nation’s fault lines over gender identity. It pitted a 33-year-old former journalist who began her physical gender transition four years ago against a 13-term incumbent who called himself Virginia’s “chief homophobe” and earlier this year introduced a “bathroom bill” that died in committee.

Waitress Denied Tip for ‘not loving Jesus’

Christians are beyond ridiculous sometimes. Well, most of the time.

A waitress who has a rainbow tattoo on her wrist has been left a homophobic note rather than a tip because customers assumed her sexuality.

Samantha Heaton works at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Illinois and on a recent shift, she served a couple who racked up a $60 bill.

Heaton explains that she went above and beyond for the couple, and during their time in the restaurant, neither religion or sexuality was discussed.

However, she was shocked that when she went to clear the couple’s table they had not left a tip, as is the norm in America.

Not Always Right

I just saw a notice from WordPress that I’ve had this blog for four years now. Hard to believe! In honor of this anniversary, I present you with a scenario from the website ‘Not Always Right‘ which, while not humorous, will have you fist-pumping by the end. As a reminder, if you’re unfamiliar with the site, you can click on the link and enjoy stories from customer service employees around the world dealing with stupid – and sometimes hateful – people in their daily work.

This scenario takes place at a fast food restaurant in Massachusetts.

(It’s a slow day at the cash register when an elderly man and his grandson walk up to the counter. The grandfather gives their order, but then notices the rainbow bracelet on my wrist as I go to take their payment.)

Grandpa: “Are you gay, son?”

(He points derisively at the bracelet.)

Me: “Yes, I am, but I’m not ashamed and—”

Grandpa: “Good God, they let you people touch food?”

Me: “Sir—”

Grandpa: “Don’t you ‘sir’ me, you f****** [homosexual slur]!”

Me: “That was uncalled for.”

Grandpa: “What’s uncalled for is you trying to turn my grandson gay.”

Me: “I assure you, sir, that’s not—”

Grandpa: “Back in my day we had values. Now there’s a [slur] as our president and [slur]s touching our food. This is why America is going down the s***er, because [slur]s like you think it’s cool to be a f****** [slur].”

Me: *biting my tongue* “Would you like to speak with my manager?”

Grandpa: “Yeah, I would! And I’ll ask him what sort of idiot he is for hiring a [slur] like you”

(My manager is a woman. She comes over.)

Manager: “What’s the problem here?”

Grandpa: “Your employee’s a [slur].”

Manager: *matter-of-factly* “Yes, he is.”

Grandpa: “This is a family restaurant. You can’t have [slur]s working here!”

Manager: “I can, and I do. But you’re right, sir, this is a family restaurant. As a result, I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”

(Grandpa stands there stunned, and the whole time the poor kid looks like he’s about to cry.)

Manager: “Your grandson is still welcome as he’s not the problem, but you aren’t allowed back in here. Have a good day.”

(Baffled and so angry he couldn’t speak, the grandpa dragged the boy out by his arm.)

‘Supergirl’ shuts down homophobic complaint

Although I got away from watching Supergirl, I know the characters well enough and am pleasantly surprised to learn of Alex’s sexuality. And it’s true, if Hollywood is going to offer us lgbt characters, they need to make sure they cover all facets of lgbt life – including those of us who try to live a hetero existence to please others, only to acknowledge as adults the truth of who we are.

Truthfully, I’m glad that it turned out to be not the superhero herself, but someone she is very close to so that there is the struggle for the Woman of Steel who can figuratively move mountains, but there’s really nothing she can do to help her sister’s struggles. THAT, to me is more realistic than turning Supergirl into a lesbian.

Supergirl has gone even further to address issues facing LGBT people – this time in real life.

The show’s producers had promised last summer that a major character in the universe shared by Supergirl, Arrow and The Flash would come out, and speculation has run rampant ever since.

But in the real world, the hero took to Twitter to address a tweet from a follower who complained that she had to explain homosexuality to her kids.

Without pulling any punches, a Supergirl account responded: “Good, explain to them that love is love and it’s beautiful no matter where you find it and who you find it with.”

Gay Men’s Advice for Straight Men

Got any others you might add? Some of these should be standard to any man’s routine, gay or straight, but it’s funny how straight men seem to be the ones needing to be told. The ones about being straight men being homophobic are proven time and again with pastors who preach anti-gay rhetoric behind the pulpit only to find out that while he was standing there, a dude was on his knees blowing him.

Emergency Plane Landing Due to Homophobe

This is just unbelievable. Should’ve just booted him out the plane without the landing part of this emergency.

A flight had to be diverted after the furious rant of a homophobic and misogynistic passenger, according to others onboard.

The US bound flight from Australia had to be diverted to Auckland, New Zealand, following the passenger’s furious rows aboard the flight.

According to the New Zealand Herald, the man was initially angry that he’d been placed in a middle seat.

He then escalated into a furious rant – spouting homophobic slurs and misogyny at anyone who engaged with him.
