LGBT Candidate Winners in Mid-Terms

Let’s celebrate this return to the Cafe with a highlight of the LGBT winners in this mid-term election cycle.

At the National level:

Colorado has it’s first openly gay governor in Jared Polis.
Kansas elected it’s first Lesbian and Native American to congress in Sharice Davids.
New Hampshire has it’s first gay member of Congress in Chris Pappas.
Another Lesbian was elected to Congress representing Minnesota, Angie Craig.

At the state level:

New Hampshire has a pair of transgender women elected to its House of Representatives – Gerri Canon and Lisa Bunker
Kansas also has Susan Ruiz and Brandon Woodard added to its state legislature.
Malcolm Kenyatta is the first black gay man elected to Pennsylvania’s legislature.
Teri Johnston is Key West, FL’s first lesbian mayor.

And finally, though he is not gay himself, Zach Wahls – who you may recall defended his two moms in 2011 to the Iowa House of Representatives now represents Iowa Senate District 37.

We also saw Massachusettes vote to protect transgender rights.

So not only did the Democrats take back the House of Representatives, both LGBT candidates as well as women in general, won BIG across the country.

Pulse’s Unclaimed Victim

It’s been nearly a year and this heartbreaking story lingers. 😦 Any one of us could’ve been in that situation. Always be thankful for your familial and friendly support if you are fortunate enough to have it.

The news had to hit hard. For those families who waited all day after news of the Pulse shooting first broke, the confirmation process moved at a painfully slow pace. Many parents had to wait more than 24 hours to find out for certain why their child would not pick up the phone and verify they were OK. The loved ones of the 49 killed that night learned heartbreaking news that suddenly shifted their emotion from worry to sorrow and redirected their energy toward funeral plans.

But one father greeted news a different way, not by weeping for his son but in anger toward a child he refused to accept. Why? Because the child was gay. The father wouldn’t even take the body from the morgue.

Elderly Lesbian Couple Was Left Nasty Note

Two things I find true across the board about hateful Republicans:

First….They are absolutely cowardly when it comes to confronting their victims. They rile against liberals who want to be politically correct, which to my mind simply means having the courtesy to not be an asshole to everyone you come into contact with. If I can’t be “politically correct,” then I DEMAND that you own up to your hate and put your fucking name to hateful messages.

Second…. They always have a passive-aggressive tone to their letter. “Don’t take this the wrong way…” How the fuck should it be taken? If it’s not personal, don’t write a fucking letter.

A lesbian couple in their seventies was attending a Hillsborough County Women’s Democratic Club meeting at their local library in Florida recently when they came out to discover a disgusting, homophobic note on their car.

Wife of Pulse Shooter Arested

Well this is surprising news, I must say. I’m glad she’s been arrested, though. I’m tired of these women pleading ignorance when I’m quite sure the opposite is true.

Noor Salman, the widow of Pulse shooter Omar Mateen, has been arrested in California, where she faces charges for aiding and abetting, as well as obstruction of justice. After her husband killed 49 people inside Orlando’s gay nightclub this June, Salman relocated to San Francisco and will make her first appearance tomorrow.

S. FL LGBTQ bars on alert after threat of Pulse-style massacre

You are seven levels of stupid if you’re going to announce your intentions far in advance and quite publicly so the police and your target can prepare for whatever you think you’re going to do.

Police in a Fort Lauderdale, Fla. suburb are looking for a man with an extensive criminal record who posted a frightening threat on Facebook: “It’s time to clean up Wilton Manors from all you AIDS-infested losers,” and “None of you deserve to live. If you losers thought the Pulse Nightclub shooting was bad, wait ’til you see what I’m planning for Labor Day.”

Save Your Sympathy. You Are The Problem.

I have definitely notice that even the likes of Hillary Clinton focus on the massacre of 12 June 2016 as being a terrorist/Muslim crime, but a hate crime. Full stop. End of story.

In the aftermath of the Orlando massacre, Utah Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox attended a vigil for the victims and gave a speech, which soon went viral, in which he apologized for his past homophobic behavior and thanked the LGBTQ community for being patient with him while he evolved.
