BSA to Accept Trans Boys

This is huge news for any of you who have read news in the past on here about Boy Scouts of America’s past stance on the rights of lgbt youth. The Scouts may have initially gained their largest support from churches across the country, but it has never been a religious organization. They are not required to meet in a church building, but generally do so for convenience. I was a Brownie as a child and we met in the cafeteria my elementary school. When I was promoted to a Girl Scout, yes, we met in a local church, but no one had to belong to the church in order to attend. There are other places troops can meet and if Christian members don’t like the inclusion, there are other organizations for them to join or start on their own, full of all of the exclusion they like.

The Boy Scouts of America said on Monday the group would begin accepting transgender boys, bucking its more than a century-old practice of using the gender stated on a birth certificate to determine eligibility.

“Starting today, we will accept and register youth in the Cub and Boy Scout programs based on the gender identity indicated on the application,” Boy Scouts of America communications director Effie Delimarkos said in an emailed statement.

Boy Scouts Ends Ban On Gay Leaders

Do they allow gay boys and trans? I can’t remember. If not, they should.

WASHINGTON — The Boy Scouts of America ended its blanket ban on gay leaders on Monday, following an executive board vote that capped off several months of quick movement on the issue.

“On Monday, July 27, the national executive board ratified a resolution removing the national restriction on openly gay leaders and employees,” Boy Scouts President Robert Gates said in a video announcing the news. Under the new policy, however, individually chartered troops — many of which are backed by churches — will be allowed to continue the ban.

According to a statement from the Boy Scouts, 79 percent of the board members “present and voting” voted in favor of the resolution.

Boy Scouts executive committee OKs ending ban on gay leaders

Hello Lovelies!

This is such great news! And another victory, but I see this as more of a victory for our children. I remember when I was in the Brownies and then Girl Scouts, my mom was a participant in a lot of what my troops did. I think children of LGBT parents should have the same rights as children of straight parents. They shouldn’t be punished for being born to the “wrong” parents.

NEW YORK (AP) — The executive committee of the Boy Scouts of America has unanimously approved a resolution that would end the organization’s blanket ban on gay adult leaders and let individual scout units set their own policy on the long-divisive issue.

In a statement Monday, the BSA said the resolution was approved by the 17-member executive committee on Friday, and would become official policy if ratified by the organization’s 80-member National Executive Board at a meeting on July 27.

Boy Scouts Lead Thousands In New York City Pride Parade

This is AWESOME!

A contingent of active and former members of the Boy Scouts of America led thousands Sunday in New York City’s 44th Annual Pride Parade — a historic move in celebration of the organization’s inclusion of out gay youth and in protest of its existing ban on out gay adult members.

The group of over a dozen — spanning generations of Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts, leaders in uniform, and volunteers — presented the American flag and acted as the parade’s color guard, leading over 14,000 parade participants through Manhattan. Crystal Bueno, a Cub Scouts leader from Brooklyn, said their service in the march was “emotional and bittersweet.”

Boy Scouts ban church that let gay man lead troop

Funny how the church was okay with the gay man, but not the Boy Scouts of America. Sad.

SEATTLE (AP) — The Boy Scouts of America has revoked its charter agreement with a Seattle church that refused to remove a gay troop leader after the organization withdrew his membership.

A Boy Scouts attorney told Rainier Beach United Methodist Church last week that it no longer could host troops under the Boy Scouts name.

The church has stood by Geoff McGrath, 49, a Seattle software engineer and Eagle Scout, after his membership in the organization was revoked last month, setting off an impasse between the church and one of the country’s most popular youth organizations.

The Boy Scouts of America told McGrath in a March letter that it “no choice” but to revoke his registration after he said he was gay while being profiled by NBC News.

Boy Scouts boot openly gay scout leader

Seriously? Deliberately injecting his sexuality into the job??? FFS people!

An openly gay Boy Scouts troop leader in Washington state was abruptly removed from his post for “deliberately injecting” his sexuality into the job, the Boy Scouts of America announced on Monday.

Geoff McGrath, scoutmaster of Seattle’s Troop 98, was being profiled by NBC News when the organization said it was severing ties with him.

“Our policy is that we do not ask people about their sexual orientation,” Boy Scouts spokesman Deron Smith said in a statement to NBC. “And it’s not an issue until they deliberately inject it into Scouting in an inappropriate fashion.

“The National Council has revoked his registration,” Smith added.

Disney Will End Funding To Boy Scouts Over Anti-Gay Policy

This is a huge step on the part of Disney. I doubt in the long run there will be many troops that will fall apart because they no longer receive this funding.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Walt Disney Company will cut funding to the Boy Scouts of America beginning in 2015 because of a policy that bans gay adult leaders in the organization.

The Boy Scouts organization is “disappointed” by the decision, which will affect the organization’s ability to serve children, Deron Smith, a Boy Scouts spokesman, said in a statement Sunday. Disney does not provide direct funding to the Boy Scouts, but it donates money to some troops in exchange for volunteer hours completed by Disney employees, he said.

“We believe every child deserves the opportunity to be a part of the Scouting experience and we are disappointed in this decision because it will impact our ability to serve kids,” he said.

First Openly Gay Eagle Scout Under New Policy; Brother Excluded

It’s difficult to understand this new policy, but there doesn’t seem to be a formal Scouting group beyond Eagle Scout and age 18. Yes, they typically go on to become Scout Leaders, but not always. Hopefully Scouting will continue to evolve and allow everyone to be open.

Pascal Tessier, a high school senior from Kensington, Md., looked up to his older brother Lucien and followed him on the path in Boy Scouting to attain the highest rank of Eagle.

Last night, just nine months after the Boy Scouts of America lifted its longtime ban on admitting openly gay Scouts, 17-year-old Pascal became the first to receive that coveted award at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Chevy Chase, Md.

But his 21-year-old brother, who is also gay but had to keep his sexuality low key on his path to becoming an Eagle, can no longer participate in Scouting because he is an adult. In a two-tiered policy that began on Jan. 1, the Boy Scouts of America has embraced younger youth who are gay, but not those over 18.

Boy Scouts Begin Allowing Gay Youth Scouts

You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

Whether they maintained their stance on homosexuals or decided to open up to welcome all males, in the end, there would’ve been little change. The extremists on either side of the spectrum are but a small portion of the entire BSA organization.

DALLAS, Dec 31 (Reuters) – The Boy Scouts of America will allow openly gay scouts for the first time as of Jan. 1, with the century-old group facing conservative dissent from within for making the change and criticism from rights groups for not going far enough.

Some of those upset by the change have joined socially conservative groups such as start-up Trail Life USA, which says “any sexual activity outside the context of the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman is sinful before God” and runs counter to its core values.

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has also taken a financial hit, with some prominent corporate sponsors withdrawing support over the group’s decision to keep in place a ban on homosexuals from serving as adult leaders.

This month, Lockheed Martin Corp, the top U.S. defense contractor, said it had halted donations to the Boy Scouts because of policies to exclude some gays from its ranks.

BSA spokesman Deron Smith said the group is still strong, with only a few breaking away from its ranks.

8 companies that don’t support gay rights

I have to say this is an enlightening list. Out of all of these, Chik-fil-a is the most difficult for me, because I do love their chicken. But I think my rights are more important than chicken. On top of their issue with gay rights, they also use GMO chickens so….

  1. Chik-fil-a (*sigh*)
  2. Domino’s Pizza (they have crappy pizza anyway)
  3. Urban Outfitters
  4. Exxon
  5. The Salvation Army  (does this mean I can shove those bells where the sun don’t shine?)
  6. Purina (I don’t feed my dogs crap anyway)
  7. Boy Scouts of America
  8. Cracker Barrel

I think the saddest one of all is BSA. They are fostering intolerance in future generations.
