American Suing US Gov’t For Denying Her Child Citizenship

This seems rather convoluted, but why wouldn’t the woman from Italy simply become a naturalized citizen of the US?

Allison Blixt was standing with her wife, Stefania Zaccari, at the counter of the US embassy in London when a member of staff started asking her whose eggs were used to make their first child, Lucas.

It was 2015, two months after Lucas was born, and the beginning of an interrogation that would leave Blixt stunned and lead, this week, to a landmark lawsuit.

The official told her that despite Blixt being a US citizen, despite her and Zaccari being married, and despite both of them being named on Lucas’s birth certificate as the parents, because Blixt did not give birth to Lucas – and Zaccari, an Italian citizen, did – she could not register him as a US citizen.

It would mean they would never be able to return to Blixt’s home country and live as a family. The same would not have been the case, she told BuzzFeed News from their home in south London, had she been in a heterosexual relationship.

The Not-So-Secret Plan to End Gay Marriage

I’m sorry. The original story called it a secret plan, but if they wrote about it for millions to read, it’s secret no more.

Two notorious TV hosts have a secret plan to end equal marriage, and apparently it’s hiding inside their closet.

Twin brothers David and Jason Benham became famous among evangelicals in 2014 when their house-flipping TV reality show was cancelled over their anti-gay activism.

The pair, hosts of HGTV series Flip It Forward, were axed after TV execs were made aware that they had long records of religious anti-LGBT activism.

Wedding Idea for Animal Lovers

I have seen this advertisement on Facebook twice now and both times a same-sex couple was featured. I’m sorry to say, boys, that both times it was a female couple. Lol I’m sure they’d welcome two guys all the same. A zoo (or aquarium) would be the perfect wedding venue for animal lovers and their families. ❤

MS is Most Anti-LGBT State

I live in a state which shares a border with Mississippi. After reading this, I find myself not caring that the state is often left out of the narrative of hurricane coverage. With all this hate why should we remember they exist? Maybe I should feel some measure of happiness that they didn’t entirely exclude heterosexual people in their machinations.

This week, one of the nation’s most sweeping religious exemption laws, which allows for widespread discrimination based on “sincerely held religious beliefs of moral convictions,” went into effect in Mississippi. The law permits religious organizations to discriminate against same-sex couples, transgender people, unmarried couples, and people having sex outside of marriage—including single parents and heterosexual couples—in housing and employment. HB 1523 also authorizes government officials to refuse to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples.

Same-Sex Couples Can Now Legally Sue Kim Davis For Damages

Same-sex couples are now legally allowed to sue Rowan County clerk Kim Davis, who refused to give out marriage licenses to gay couples even when federally ordered to do so.

A ruling last August denied David Ermold and David Moore’s lawsuit against Davis, but today, an appeals court has ruled that the suit is valid, because it is “not a general challenge to Davis’s policy, but rather seeks damages for a particularized harm allegedly suffered by a specific set of plaintiffs.” Ermold and Moore are the couple who originally filmed Davis denying them their federal right to obtain a marriage license.

NC House bill to make gay marriage illegal again

NC should just hang a sign on the front door that says WE HATE GAYS! I have family there, unfortunately, and they are very much in line with all anti-LGBT sentiment. It truly makes me sick that so-called Christians are supposed to be CHRIST LIKE and they are anything but. Saying that what the United States Supreme Court decided about gay marriage is null and void is like a child telling a parent that he/she is not punished for whatever the child did wrong.

A bill filed Tuesday by four N.C. House Republicans would direct state government to defy a U.S. Supreme Court ruling and restore the state constitution’s ban on same-sex marriage.

House Bill 780 is titled “Uphold Historical Marriage Act,” and is sponsored by some of the House’s most conservative legislators. They frequently file bills that don’t get a hearing because House GOP leaders don’t support the proposals.

The bill says that the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage across the country “is null and void in the State of North Carolina.” The sponsors argue in the bill language that it’s “clear that laws concerning marriage are for each state to establish and maintain severally and independently.”

Engagement photo captures a stranger’s perfect reaction

This is so sweet!!

A total stranger has given a lot of joy to a newly-engaged couple, after being accidentally captured in one of their engagement photos.

Jessica Rodriguez picked a quiet moment to propose to long-time partner Chelsea Miller in the foyer at the Art Institute of Chicago.

She sprung the surprise on her partner with help from a few friends, who appeared with a giant banner bearing the words ‘Will You Marry Me?’.

The couple captured the attention of nearby crowds as Jessica got down on one knee – and an emotional Chelsea accepted the proposal to applause.

One of their engagement photos captured the moment better than anyone could have expected – thanks to a perfect stranger who was captured sitting in the background, clearly overwhelmed with joy.

Ky. family judge: Gay marriage, like ‘jumbo shrimp,’ illogical

Just so Judge Tim Philpot understands, oxymorons are simply a figure of speech. They are neither logical or illogical. They simply are. From the entry on Wikipedia:

An oxymoron (usual plural oxymorons, less commonly the Greek-style oxymora) is a figure of speech that juxtaposes elements that appear to be contradictory, but which contain a concealed point. Oxymorons appear in a variety of contexts, including inadvertent errors (such as “ground pilot”) and literary oxymorons crafted to reveal a paradox.

Before you make an ass of yourself, make sure you know what you’re talking about. On many things.

LOUISVILLE — A Family Court judge who routinely presides over gay adoptions said that gay marriage is an “oxymoron” like “jumbo shrimp” or a “magnificent Chihuahua.”

Appearing before a religious group, Fayette Circuit Court Judge Tim Philpot said he loves homosexuals but their relationships are “sterile” and “just entertainment.”

Addressing the Francis Asbury Society in Wilmore, Ky., on Sept. 8, Philpot called the Supreme Court’s decision last year legalizing gay marriage “pretty close to insane” and warned that “there is no question that polygamy is on the way.”

John Kasich On Bakeries That Won’t Serve Same-Sex Couples: ‘Make Them A Cupcake’

He’s so fucking ignorant as is everyone else who thinks like him. Keep brushing these issues under the rug and it will explode in your face and we all know explosions are NEVER pretty.

This week, Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) suggested that bakeries inclined to refuse service to a same-sex couple should still serve them.

Speaking at the University of Virginia on Monday, Kasich insisted that churches should not have to violate their beliefs, but the same is not true of businesses. “People talk about religious liberty, and I think frankly our churches should not be forced to do anything that’s not consistent with them,” he said, “but if you’re a cupcake maker and someone wants a cupcake, make them a cupcake. Let’s not have a big lawsuit or argument over all this stuff. Move on.”

Cupcakes have not really been part of the controversy at bakeries. Indeed, it is wedding cakes that bakers like Jack Phillips in Colorado or Aaron and Melissa Klein in Oregon have refused to sell to same-sex couples. It’s unclear if Kasich meant to express support for nondiscrimination laws or if he is frustrated by the controversy some business owners are creating. Either way, his position is still to the left of other Republican presidential candidates like Marco Rubio and in particular, Ted Cruz, who has specifically highlighted “protecting” religious business owners as a pillar of his campaign.

This British Man’s Husband Died On Honeymoon But Australia Refuses To Recognise Their Marriage

This is truly heartbreaking. Mr Bulmer-Rizzi deserves to have his name on that death certificate as a legal husband even if the idiots in Australia don’t recognize same sex marriage. I mean they were on vacation, not planning to move there, ffs!! I’m so glad he gets along with his in-laws and they, too, pushed for those idiots to recognize Mr Bulmer-Rizzi as THE one to talk to, full stop. Now I know where NOT to visit with my Beloved. EVER.

Marco Bulmer-Rizzi’s voice is quiet and steady on the phone from Australia as he tries to stay composed – to explain what has happened, the magnitude of what he has lost, and the sense of injustice he feels.

Last Saturday, while on honeymoon in Adelaide, South Australia, his new husband, David Bulmer-Rizzi, 32, died suddenly after falling down a staircase and cracking his skull at the home of the friends they were visiting. Both were British citizens, but because same-sex marriage is not recognised in Australia, and in the state of South Australia even same-sex marriages from overseas are not legally recognised, Bulmer-Rizzi, 38, was told his husband’s death certificate would state two words under the deceased’s marital status: “never married”.
