Best story after the one about the lgbt migrants who arrived in Tijuana first.
At least seven LGBT couples traveling with the Central American migrant caravan held a symbolic mass wedding near the U.S.–Mexico border over the weekend.
Officiants from a Unitarian Universalist delegation wed the couples in a ceremony in Tijuana, Mexico, on Saturday, according to multiple reports.
Hugo Córdoba, one of the officiants, described the wedding as an “act of justice,” according to NBC News.
“The dream of marrying is an illusion for most of them,” Córdoba said. “We are helping them make this a reality.”
People suck. We are only here on this planet to live our selfish lives, despite all that we pretend. Humans aren’t kind, they aren’t compassionate, they aren’t loving, they aren’t anything good. Period. Everything in this article shows how despicable and horrible and downright inhumane people are. Every damn day.
Trans people have been beheaded, gunned down and stoned to death, according to a new report.
It highlights the 368 trans, non-binary and gender-variant people, at least, who were murdered in the 12 months from 1 October 2017 to 30 September 2018.
28 of the trans murder victims were reported to be teenagers, with some as young as 16.
There were five beheadings. Nine people were stoned to death. The majority of the people killed were trans women of color, often gunned down or beaten to death.
The Transgender Murder Monitoring Project has released this update in time for Transgender Day of Remembrance tomorrow (20 November).
So glad this girl’s friends are looking out for her. Shameful that her parents disowned her, but we see that a lot, no matter how much progress is made.
An online fundraiser has grown for a local college student who was cut off by her parents when they found out she was gay.
Webster native Emily Scheck says her parents cut ties in August when they found out she’s in a relationship with a woman.
Scheck, a sophomore at Canisius College in Buffalo, receives a partial scholarship as a Division I cross-country and track athlete. But her parents wanted her to give it all up and go to counseling because she’s gay.
Just one more thing to add to their list of great achievements!!
On June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court made same-sex marriage legal across the U.S., declaring that refusing to do so would violate the Constitution. Shortly after the high court’s landmark decision, the Obama administration celebrated by lighting the White House in rainbow colors.
Now, more than three years after that historic Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, former first lady Michelle Obama revealed that she and her daughter Malia, then 16, snuck out of the White House that night to join in on the fun happening outside their residence.
It’s a shame that these people – not just those who identify as LGBT – will be turned away from the US. This is not who we are.
A group of LGBT migrants who were part of the massive caravan slowly marching toward the U.S. made it to the coastal border city of Tijuana on Sunday. They are the first of more than 3,600 Central Americans to reach the northern border of Mexico.
About 80 migrants, the majority of whom identify as LGBT, splintered off from the larger group in Mexico City after weeks of what they say was discriminatory treatment by local residents and other travelers, Honduran migrant Cesar Mejia told reporters at a news conference on Sunday.
“Whenever we arrived at a stopping point the LGBT community was the last to be taken into account in every way. So our goal was to change that and say, ‘This time we are going to be first,’ ” Mejia said.
Frankly, I’m not sure why the original story has a question mark in the headline, but whatevs. It’s good to see Jaden being so, well, blunt about how he feels. 😉
Jaden Smith may have just come out! The actor known for his beautiful non-binary fashion announced that he has a boyfriend at the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles. Smith claims his boyfriend is none other than Tyler, the Creator, who was hosting the festival.
Said Smith to the crowd: “I wanna tell you, Tyler doesn’t want to say, but Tyler’s my mother f***ing boyfriend and he’s been my mother f***ing boyfriend my whole f***ing life!”
Let’s celebrate this return to the Cafe with a highlight of the LGBT winners in this mid-term election cycle.
At the National level:
Colorado has it’s first openly gay governor in Jared Polis.
Kansas elected it’s first Lesbian and Native American to congress in Sharice Davids.
New Hampshire has it’s first gay member of Congress in Chris Pappas.
Another Lesbian was elected to Congress representing Minnesota, Angie Craig.
At the state level:
New Hampshire has a pair of transgender women elected to its House of Representatives – Gerri Canon and Lisa Bunker
Kansas also has Susan Ruiz and Brandon Woodard added to its state legislature.
Malcolm Kenyatta is the first black gay man elected to Pennsylvania’s legislature.
Teri Johnston is Key West, FL’s first lesbian mayor.
And finally, though he is not gay himself, Zach Wahls – who you may recall defended his two moms in 2011 to the Iowa House of Representatives now represents Iowa Senate District 37.
We also saw Massachusettes vote to protect transgender rights.
So not only did the Democrats take back the House of Representatives, both LGBT candidates as well as women in general, won BIG across the country.
